The University of St Andrew’s collections team have been experimenting with AI tools to help manage our growing backlog of donated materials and to enhance metadata creation. In this talk, Dr Graeme Kemp will share what they did, how they did it, and the benefits they have seen - along with some reflections on where this work might take us next. Dr. Graeme Kemp is the Head of Library Collections at the University of St Andrews, where he leads on collection management, metadata, and digital discovery initiatives. Previously, he served as Senior Manager for Discovery and Systems at the University of Glasgow, following an academic career as a historian specializing in digital approaches to early printed books. His work examines the intersection of education, data science, and emerging technologies, with a particular focus on AI, machine learning, and data visualization to enhance library collections and workflows. He has advised multiple digital humanities projects and continues to explore the evolving role of AI in higher education, cultural heritage, and scholarly research. |
