Summary: Professor Bob Gilmour, from the School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment, will deliver his inaugural Professorial Lecture on Tuesday, February 18. The lecture, entitled From invisibility to collaborative teaching excellence?, will examine the different career development opportunities available to Learning and Teaching academics through various activities including international and multidisciplinary partnerships. It will also look at his journey to Professor via the Learning and Teaching route. Professor Gilmour will draw on his experiences as a Programme Leader and his role as Principal Investigator of the highly successful PEETS Project, an initiative designed for students to gain valuable skills and experience in the renewable energy sector while studying abroad. He said: “The route to becoming a Professor through Learning and Teaching, judging solely on numbers, may appear more challenging than through a ‘research pathway’. “However, by taking advantage of the numerous opportunities available in GCU, it can be an extremely satisfying route, having significant impacts on student and staff experience and expertise at home and abroad; it can also be a lot of fun!” Professor Gilmour holds a PhD in Engineering and has more than 20 years of experience working in the higher education sector. His current area of focus is the development of employability attributes for students.
