Edify Project

Newsletter - Two

Over to you...what are you thinking?

A big hello to you all. Things are starting to move along now so we would like to start a dialogue with you to see what you hope to get out of the Edify project. We would also like to hear your thoughts so far, thoughts on what interested you in the first place to join the project. Have you been toying with ideas regarding a lesson you would like to put together? Please read on and hopefully be inspired by some of the video content here (videos can be made fullscreen). We will be having an all-group MS Teams meeting in the next few days, please look out for the invite.

Impossible possibilities

“Go beyond the lecture theatre to explore virtual worlds, conduct challenging or costly experiments, and bend the rules of reality”.

Edify Good Practice Video

Seen at the link below is an example of good practice in creating a lesson in VR using the proxy mode. That's to say, broadcasting a VR lesson that you create through Teams or Zoom. It’s also a good insight into the state of VR in the education sector.

So, what's this VR thing all about...
...and what's in it for me?

So, what's in it for you. In a way it is up to you, you will have the opportunity to use high quality VR equipment, and possibly for the first time.

We would like to encourage you to put on your thinking cap, or should I say VR headset, and imagine what you could do with the technology.
To give you a head start I have compiled a few ideas in a lesson video to show several approaches that are possible. But we really hope you bring your own ideas into the virtual world. And that you try to think differently and utilise the possibilities, and impossibilities, of the virtual reality platform..

Edify VR Case Studies

Edify develops large scale, fully immersive, lessons. One of these, as you may know, is being developed for GCU. Read how winning VR project is helping to revolutionise teaching methods in health, here at GCU.

At the link below, you can see a number of Edify case studies that are currently in development.

Your Edify Team

You may have spotted that you now have an Edify team inside MS Teams (if not, try clicking on the link below). It's somewhere to showcase your work, ask questions or drop files. Please find the "Edify Project" tile on your Teams app, and feel free to add content.

Let's have a chat.

We will shortly be sending out an Edify Team invite for us to come together to discuss ideas and ask questions about the project. Some questions we would like to ask you are below. Please use the link to the Forms questionnaire seen below.

• What have you been up to since you signed up to the Edify project, did you do any preliminary work/research?
• What inspired you to take up the challenge to work with virtual reality?
• If there was absolutely nothing holding you back, what would your ideal, fully immersive, lesson look like?
• In 3 to 5 years could you see yourself teaching inside VR and how would your lesson differ from today’s?

The Future of Edify

• So, do you have a keen interest in VR?
• Are you keen to see the Edify software develop?

In this section you'll find a link to avatars of the future that Edify is actively investigating, you may love or hate this specific development.
You’ll also find a link to the Edify road map that will allow you to leave new feature suggestions.
